Payne had talked about battles with alcoholism from the peak of One Direction’s fame and also opened up about his struggles with thoughts of suicide.
Payne first gained fame on the UK show The X Factor in 2008 but rose to worldwide stardom in 2010 with the creation of One Direction, one of the most successful boy bands ever.
After One Direction went on a break in 2016, Payne decided to focus on his music and signed a deal with Republic Records. In 2017, his first solo single “Strip That Down” was unveiled and achieved platinum status in both the U.S. and the U.K.
In the initial three years of his solo ventures, Payne sold over 18 million singles, and 2.4 million albums, and gathered 3.9 billion streams. Aside from his projects, Payne also created remixes using the stage names “Big Payno” and “Payno.” He worked with fellow artists and revamped songs for his band and vocalist Cheryl Cole.
