What we Know so far
iPhone 16 Pro Max will arrive alongside the rest of the iPhone 16 family on September 9, 2024, and will be the most advance phone to come out this year. It’s unlikely that Apple will raise the price of the phone, as just last year Apple raised the price by $100 by eliminating the 128GB storage option, which effectively made the base Pro Max pricier.
Display
The display of iPhone 16 Pro Max has been said to have a bigger 6.86-inch OLED display which will be quite bright and clear so that we will get a much better experience while gaming or watching movies, or using the internet, according to Apple. The color will be quite vibrant and the display experience will also be very smooth as far as refresh rate is concerned as it is with Pro-Motion support which will provide a refresh rate from 1 to 120Hz which will make our user experience better. It will also have a small island punch-hole for face ID and its bezels have also been kept quite thin so that we can get a full screen experience.
Camera
iPhone 16 Pro Max camera section has seen some significant upgrades. This model introduces a Tetra-prism telephoto camera that offers up to 5x zoom (reaching 120mm), making it the longest-zoom telephoto camera ever featured on an iPhone. Apple had previously introduced a 48MP camera on the Pro models, so there’s been a lot of improvement in the recent models over the past few years.
Reports are coming in, shared by Digital Chat Station and OvO Baby Sauce OvO, that the iPhone 16 Pro Max will feature a custom 48MP Sony IMX903 sensor.
iPhone 16 Pro Max is getting a new ultra-wide camera that’s going to be much sharper than the previous 12MP ultra-wide, with a 48MP resolution. This upgrade will significantly improve low-light image quality.
iPhone 16 Pro Max most certainly captures Spatial Video, which you can watch on the Apple Vision Pro headset. This feature is expected to be available on the other iPhone 16 models as well.
Design
When it comes to design, the iPhone 16 Pro Max is most likely sticking with the titanium design introduced with the iPhone 15 Pro/Pro Max models. However, we can also expect some additional upgrades.
A major change in the iPhone 16 Pro Max is its larger 6.86-inch display, which is a big upgrade over the 6.7-inch screen we’ve had since the iPhone 12 Pro Max. Apple is making the bezels even thinner to maximize the display size, making the screen look even more impressive.
This picture shows four dummies representing the entire iPhone 16 lineup. You can see the iPhone 16 Pro Max in its actual size, and the image also highlights a size comparison of the different iPhone 16 variants.
The iPhone 16 lineup, including possibly the base model, is expected to feature very thin bezels, which will look stunning. Apple will use a technology called BRS (Border Reduction Structure) to make the bezels as thin as possible. Reports are saying that the iPhone 16 Pro Max could have ultra-thin bezels as narrow as 1.15mm.
Storage
iPhone 16 Pro Max storage options:
- 256 GB
- 512 GB
- 1 TB
- 2TB (rumored)*
When it comes to storage, it’s being reported that the iPhone 16 Pro Max will also come in 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB versions, following the same pattern as previous models. Apple seems to be sticking with what worked before.
There’s talk that the iPhone 16 Pro Max might be released with a massive 2TB storage option. This would be perfect for those into vlogging or anyone who needs a lot of storage. It might seem like a stretch, but since Apple already offers 2TB iPad Pros, we could definitely see 2TB storage on the iPhone 16 Pro Max too.
Battery
It seems the iPhone 16 Pro Max will come with a bigger battery. According to rumors, it’s expected to be larger than the one in the iPhone 15 Pro Max.
Rumors suggest the iPhone 16 Pro Max will have a 4,676mAh battery, making it the biggest battery ever in an iPhone. As for battery life, it’s expected to be excellent. This rumor was confirmed in August 2024, with another leak revealing that the iPhone 16 Pro Max will indeed feature a 4,676mAh battery.
Software and Chipset
iPhone 16 Pro Max will come with iOS 18. Besides iOS 18, the iPhone 16 Pro Max is expected to receive updates for up to five years, possibly until iOS 23. However, Apple often provides more updates than initially promised, so it’s likely that the iPhone 16 Pro Max will get updates for seven to eight years.
Essential Messages app now supports RCS, which means proper text message exchange between iOS and Android devices. The app also includes advanced options like strike-through and underline, and now you can even schedule messages. Plus, there are some other new features added too.
When it comes to privacy, iOS 18 now lets you lock apps with Face ID, giving you extra security. This feature works system-wide, so it’ll be compatible with both built-in apps and third-party ones.
Photos app has been completely redesigned, and now it offers a mostly customizable interface, so you can arrange your photos just the way you want.
iPhone 16 Pro Max will have much better microphones, mainly because of the improved Siri features that are coming with it. This upgrade includes a significantly improved signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), offering a more intuitive voice assistant experience and enhanced waterproofing.
iPhone 16 Pro Max will almost certainly come with the Apple A18 chip, which is reportedly built using TSMC’s second-gen 3nm manufacturing process. This new process is expected to improve yield and reduce defects, so hopefully, it’ll also boost the iPhone 16 Pro Max’s performance and battery life.
Some early leaks from China have started to explore the potential processing power of the Apple A18 chip, but it’s way too soon to draw any solid conclusions. The leaked benchmarks show that the A18 chip scored 2822 points in the Geek-Bench 6 single-core test and 8571 points in the multi-core test. When we tested the A17 Pro chip, it scored 2958 points in the single-core test and 7288 points in the multi-core test.
iPhone 16 Pro Max is expected to come with up to 8GB of RAM, possibly due to the demands of AI. Since on-device AI processing requires a lot of RAM, this increase will help make the iPhone 16 Pro Max more future-proof, especially when it comes to AI capabilities.
