Houston, who won two Grammy awards and provided backing vocals for Aretha Franklin and Elvis Presley, died at her residence in New Jersey this morning, as reported by her daughter-in-law Pat Houston. Houston, who was being cared for by her family, was receiving hospice care for Alzheimer’s disease.

“It saddens my heart to announce the passing of my beloved Queen Cissy Houston today! Please keep the Houston family in your prayers,” her daughter-in-law Pat Houston wrote Monday on Instagram.
